Early Release
  • Heifer Trip for 9th Graders Postponed

The Heifer trip that was scheduled for Friday, May 18th through Monday, May 21st has been postponed until a later date.   The decision to postpone the trip was made due to inadequate funds raised for this out of state trip to Arkansas.  There is a possibility that the trip may occur in the future for the Class of 2015 if adequate funding can be secured for the entire expedition.

If you have further questions about this postponement, please contact the school at 361-547-3322.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

  • Mathis High School Attendance Action Plan (effective Feb. 13, 2012)
In an effort to address issues with attendance on campus, Mathis High School will immediately implement the following addendum to the Student Code of Conduct to address students being absent or tardy from class.  We appreciate the efforts of all stakeholders in the MHS community to increase our attendance rate with the ultimate goal of educating all of our students.  Please click on the "Mathis High School Attendance Action Plan" link for the full plan.
  • Monday Early Release @ 3:05pm

The full parent information letter regarding Early Release is available here: Early Out Monday Letter.pdf

To provide teachers and staff with adequate amount of time for staff development, Mathis ISD will be beginning a new initiative. Instead of 5 days of extended day learning for the school week, Mathis High School will have 4 days of extended day learning with 1 day of early release for students. Students will be released from school early (by one hour) one day out of the week. After students are released on these days, teachers and staff will go into meetings until 4:45 PM to fulfill district and campus staff development requirements.

At Mathis High School, students will be released from school at 3:05 PM starting Monday, November 7, 2011. Buses will run at these times to provide transportation home for all students on campus. If students are not able to go home at that time, they may stay afterschool in our 21st Century afterschool program, which will still run until 7 PM. Students will not be able to go to specific teachers for tutorials or practices at this time since all teachers will be participating in professional development. These "early out" Mondays will continue each week through April 2012.

     Monday Early Release Bell Schedule

Important Reminders for Parents & Students:

·         Students are not allowed to receive outside food or beverages dropped off during school hours, including during lunch. Exceptions to this rule include students with a documented medical need, or parents who choose to eat lunch with their student in the lunch room. Students are not permitted to leave campus during lunch, nor may they receive deliveries of outside food or beverages. All beverages consumed on campus must be in approved clear containers, including water and beverages sold through our own high school cafeteria and/or concessions. All students must remain in the cafeteria during lunch.

·         Students must have a school issued parking tag in order to utilize the school parking lots. Visitors must check in through our parking attendant. Student and visitor parking has moved to the front of the school.

·         Underage students may not attend Mathis ISD events unattended, particularly athletic events. This rule specifically refers to young children and non-high school students who may be dropped off at events without adequate parental supervision. Any underage students found at Mathis ISD events without parental supervision may be asked to call home and be picked up, or for a parent/guardian to join them at the event.
